This is really a big week for Android. First the announcement of the new Motorola RAZR, and now the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which is the flagship for Ice Cream Sandwich.
For those who are not aware, Ice Cream Sandwich is Android 4.0, which is the latest release of the platform and the next logical step.
Google Android really reworked the interface with some resizeable widgets. It also includes a kind of “Tron-esque” landscapes full of blue and black, and a new font known as Roboto. Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto!
Some sources have stated that the new interface is more “iOS-like”, but I will have to compare and contrast that one for myself. Other improvements for Android 4.0 include improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC support, and a full web browsing experience.
Another difference is this new app known as People that can browse friends and family to check out social network updates as well as viewing their photos.
As for the GAlaxy Nexus itself, it has a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD display (1280 x 720), a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 32GB internal storage, 1GB of RAM, and UMTS/WCDMA for 14.4 Mbps downloads. As far as the cameras go, the rear is a 5 Megapixel capable of 1080p HD video recording, and the front facing is 1.3 Megapixels.
I’m not certain who the carrier is, but it will be out in November in the United States, Asia, and Europe.
