Samsung probably timed its Illusion just in time before the Thanksgiving holiday, and two days before “the day after” otherwise known as Black Friday. The Illusion, which will be released from Verizon, is not exactly a phone to write home about.

The features only include 3G, a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, a 3 Megapixel camera, and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Yes, there are phones out there with better and greater versions of Android, not to mention 4G speeds and better processors.

However, if Android wants to continue its good track record of smartphones, it needs to think about marketing phones for those who just want a smartphone that doesn’t have to be an Einstein. In other words, the Illusion isn’t named because it is supposed to look like a smarterphone. Perhaps a better name would be the what-you-see-is-what-you-get.

If you are looking for a gift for those who don’t want an Android phone with LTE, Ice Cream Sandwich, or an advanced camera, then you might want to beat all the Black Friday shoppers and pick it up before you eat any Thanksgiving Turkey. It is available for $79 on contract, but that will change to a free phone on November 28th, if you’re willing to wait.
