Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will finally get the Android 2.1 upgrade in September this year.

The news has been reported on the official Twitter account of the UK Sony Ericsson. The exact tweet says,

We can only confirm that the upgrade to Android 2.1 is due for release before the end of September. We hope this helps.

Thsi is good news for Xperia users who have expected to get the update in Q4. However, it is an annoyance to see the amount of time handset manufacturers take to deliver the Android upgrade. When the world is getting ready for Android 3.0, Sony Ericsson should be more prompt in delivering. They are too busy porting their custom IU into Android, but tend to forget that half of the people in the world do not even use it! The Xperia lineup has such good specs but the Android 1.6 fails to do it justice.

Handset manufacturers should release the stock ROM long before releasing their update. With its vast possibilities, Android is supposed to be hacked.
