Here is another reason why Android will trump the iPhone when it comes to delivery of devices to the masses, price. If you can wait until June 24th, you will discover that Sony Mobile will finally have their Xperia ion for $99.99 from AT&T. This phone was first unveiled at CES last January, and it is Sony’s first LTE smartphone to be marketed in the United States.

Let’s go ahead and get to the specs. It has a 4.6-inch HD “Reality Display” that runs at 720p, and it has a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor as well as 16GB of internal memory (as well as a microSD card slot for expansion). As for the camera, it is at 12 Megapixels, and it also includes an HDMI port to output video and audio to HDTVs. It also has an Exmor R sensor.

The one thing that it doesn’t have, much to Android fan’s disappointment, is Ice Cream Sandwich (version 4.0). Instead, it has version 2.3 (Gingerbread), which is sort of a standard for most Android smartphones.

Other features include a connection to Sony’s Music Unlimited download service with a 30-day trail account with an offering of 12 million songs. Also included is that the Ion is PlayStation certified, but this does not mean that it can play PSP or Vita games but it can handle Android game titles that Sony has made for such devices.

In addition to the ion, the Xperia line will also have some other smartphones with the miro and the tipo.

The miro is made for “deep Facebook integration”, and it does have the Android 4.0. It also has a 3.5 inch display for excellent video quality, and also has Sony’s xLOUD audio technology for quality audio as well. The camera is 5 Megapixel quality for video recording at 30fps, and it also has a front-facing camera as well. Other features include contactless DLNA connectivity. It will be available in black, black with pink, white, and white with gold colors.

As for the tipo, it will actually have two designs. One will have a dual SIM slot, while the other is essentially your typical smartphone. The tipo also features a 3.2 inch scratch-resistant mineral glass display. The camera is a 3.2 Megapixel model, with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Yeah, that might not be anything too fancy, but it does have the Android 4.0 that the ion does not have. It should be available in red, white, blue, and black colors.
