symantec-androidThe Norton division of Symantec is famous for its flagship product, the Norton Antivirus. Now, it plans to bring the same security features it has been providing on desktop into the Android OS. This move is a part of the Norton Everywhere scheme according to which Symantec will roll out security apps for all popular platforms out there, starting with Android and iPhone.

A new free app Norton Connect is in store which will be released for Android and iPhone. This app allows access to the Symantec’s cloud storage and users need to register for the Symantec’s cloud services like Norton 360 from there. This has been present for the desktop for a long time though, it is a seemingly new and experimental feature on a mobile OS.

The official app is expected to be available at the Android app store from June this year. This App will go by the name of Norton Smartphone Security for Android 1.0 and this app will let users remotely disable a phone if it is stolen. It will also scan installed apps for sending out personal data.

Apart from that, the app will tell users if they are into roaming where additional network usage charges are applicable and it can also block some callers.

Another big feature Norton is rolling out is Norton DNS. This will let users safeguard their devices against any possible network attacks like DNS poisoning and those annoying IP blacklisting and filtering used by organizations.

The last in this list of releases is Norton LiveUpdate which lets users upgrade their firmware to a new version securely over a secure channel. This will require hardware vendors to incorporate this into their devices and Norton is already working on getting some favorable consumer electronics manufacturers.

With the release of this seemingly security suite, Norton will rule the world of Android and iPhone security.
